Martin Turšić is a musician and photographer/videographer from Zagreb based in Augsburg, with main interest in medieval and folk music.
As a folk musician he starts his path with "Naš mali Afro Bend" (NmAB) with whom he explores the colorful world of West African Percussions.
With colleagues from NmAB he spends one month in Conakry, Guinea, where he attends intensive workshop at master Mamady Keïta's house, concerts of local musicians and expands his knowledge of African culture.
Beside his trip to Guinea, he attends many workshops held by masters of African music such as Famoudou Konaté, late Sega Sidibe, Adama Dramé, Seckou Keita as well as Folk Music Workshops.
His collaboration with Croatian folk legend Dunja Knebl and colleagues resulted in formation of the band Kololira which focuses on ancient, forgotten Croatian folk songs.
Kololira has recorded two cd's: "Tamo doli" (2013) and "I Mara i cvetje" (2015), both acclaimed by critics and audience. "Tamo doli" was in the World Music Charts Europe for two months (July & August 2014).
fRoots magazine published a positive review of the album "Tamo doli" (April 2014) and included the song "Čula jesam" in the December/January compilation as well as song "Svekrve" from the album "I Mara i cvetje" on fRoots Radio Podcast for February 2016.
With Dunja Knebl & Kololira (Friends) he plays hurdy-gurdy and percussion and performs on EBU Folk Festival (2013), Ethnoambient Festival (2013, 2016) and many others.
As a passionate fan of medieval music in 2012 he forms Ensemble Forfaitz to explore troubadour and dance music of the middle ages. Also, he collaborates with Minstrel, Ensemble for Early Music from Zagreb.
His other interests are Theater ("U registraturi", Gavella Drama Theater, Zagreb), Music Pedagogy (Music Schools "Zvučni planet" and ArtArea, Zagreb, 2013-2016, Workshops), Music Production (Patrick Walker Trio - Smoke Stained Cackle, 2015), Photography, Videography.
In 2016 and 2018 he shares the stage with another Croatian folk legend, Lidija Bajuk and her Quartet for few concerts of her summer tour, including Ethnoambient Festival.
In September 2016 he joins Manu Chao on stage in Varaždin, Croatia, along with feminist choir Le Zbor for the Croatian version of his song Clandestino to send message of solidarity with refugees.
